The Government in Uganda want to start jailing and executing homosexuals!

Today, PEPSICO dropped all involvement with the homophobic singer Beenie Man, after he sang about slitting the throats of gay people last weekend in Uganda!

This is crazy! This is scarey stuff!  This madness must be stopped.  And I would be remiss in my role as a publisher, who  have access to thousands of voices each month, to not try to help.

Change.org has  started a petition against BUJU and his Grammy Nomination. 

In October 2009 Banton was quoted in news reports as saying “This is a fight, and as I said in one of my songs ‘there is no end to the war between me and f—-t’ and it’s clear.”

By nominating Banton for a prestigious Grammy Award the Recording Academy is turning a blind eye to Banton’s support of deadly violence against gay people.

Signing this letter tells the Recording Academy that honoring Banton with this nomination is not OK.

Help to end forced genital cutting on male infants, a.k.a.

routine infant circumcision, in the USA!

Representatives from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are setting off a micro-burst of hysteria at the National HIV Prevention Conference in Atlanta this week as they mull a recommendation that boys’ foreskins should be cut off to help stem the spread of HIV infection.

Right-wing pundit Rush Limbaugh claimed on his radio show that President Obama wants to mandate circumcision. Various anti-circumcision groups, which refer to themselves without evident irony as “intact-ivists,” have made strong statements advocating no changes in U.S. medical policy.

News reports cite scientific studies that show that foreskin cells are particularly susceptible to HIV, and that the foreskin can tear during intercourse, providing an entry point for infection. Opponents are adamant that the numbers don’t add up.

Intactivists stigmatize circumcision as genital mutilation without consent, akin to female genital mutilation. Current U.S. medical policy is strictly neutral on the issue, deferring to the wishes of the infant’s parents.

The CDC is clear on one thing — its Web site states, “Whatever the content may include, CDC’s final circumcision recommendations will be completely voluntary.”

LAST WEEK,  UNCUT  NEWS   resported that 12 years ago, the US passed a law banning female genital mutilation, also known as female circumcision. To mark the anniversary, protesters marched in Washington DC  last week, to protest that male circumcision is still legal.

These activists call themselves “intactivists”, and are pushing for an end to public funding for circumcision. So far, 16 states, including Washington State, have banned Medicaid funding for the purposes of circumcision. According to the International Coalition for Genital Integrity, state governments can save $1 million a year by cutting public funding for circumcision.

In other  news….

The American Academy of Pediatrics is said to be revisiting their policy on infant circumcision. The 1999 policy puts it that there are some possible medical plusses to circumcising, but that they don’t outweigh the known risks and drawbacks, or warrant routine circumcision. Nonetheless, they sum up that parents should weigh cultural factors when deciding about circumcising their sons. This part blows my mind since it’s not even a medical opinion.

Their policy is followed by other agencies like the American Medical Association, and it has a big impact on whether insurers can get away with not covering the infant procedure.

I’d like you to write to the AAP policy task force and remind them that their new policy needs to reflect human rights, the immense value of intact genitals, and the fact that babies aren’t at risk for STDs.
